Prologue~
It was spring, and all the Pokemon could feel it. The Beedrill buzzed louder, the Teddiursa stretched from their long, winter naps, and the Diglett poked their small, brown heads out of their holes where they had been.
A certain female Girafarig resting with her herd nodded towards her mate and he nuzzled her swollen stomach carefully, a worried expression plastered to his face. "Are you sure?" he whispered uncertainly, hazel eyes flicking to his peaceful herd. It's been a while since a new member of the herd arrived and the latest recruit was already grown up and won a mate. "Isn't it a bit early, Rose?" Of course, it was assumed to be only an it, as Girafarig usually give birth to one calf 11 months after breeding. It was very rare for twins to be born. Anyways, the male's mate had only been pregnant for 9, almost 10, months.
"Yes. But I'm certain it is time." she confirmed, wincing as a subtle but painful kick thrashed against her insides. She rose shakily to her hooves and stumbled to a more private area than the clearing they had been in before, collapsing down onto her side and breathing heavily. The ball-shaped head on her tail turned towards the stomach and licked it softly.
The male Giraffe Pokemon stood and watched her but didn't move as the leader of a herd must always protect the herd. The rest of the herd was snoring away peacefully as the lead female gave birth to 2 baby Girafarig. One was bigger then the other, obviously a male, and he quickly found his legs and wobbled to his feet. The smaller one whimpered quietly and moved her legs pitifully in an attempt to get up. The mother watched them happily and helped the female up with a gentle nudge. Both began to nurse lazily when she finally found her words.
"Thistle, their twins!"
The father, who had been watching in surprise the whole time, smiled proudly at the pair who seemed to be gaining strength by the second and then at is mate. "Great job, honey. What will we call them?" he asked. She pointed towards the male with her finely shaped head and spoke,"Blade. And this one," she paused, watching the female butt her brother playfully with small, nubby horns. "And we'll call this little one Nyssa."
